Can you Clean Graffiti from Stucco?

Because of its texture, stucco is one of the most difficult surfaces to remove graffiti from. Luckily for those with stucco siding, it is possible to remove – but it can take some considerable time and effort to come completely clean.

Paint spray from graffiti or even from overspray when painting the side of a home can look unsightly if it was not intended to be on the stucco of a home. It is important to use care when removing paint from stucco so as to not damage the stucco, with is fairly soft and porous in nature.

Follow these steps to remove paint from stucco without damaging the stucco, and be sure to use care and work slow and meticulously.

  1. Apply a spray paint/graffiti remover that breaks the molecular bond of the paint. Products on the market exist that are biodegradable and water based, therefore safe for the environment.
  2. Use a pumice stone to carefully scrape away the spray paint bit-by-bit. Work slowly so as to not damage the surface of the stucco.
  3. Use 120-grit sandpaper to remove any extra spray paint that was not able to be removed by the pumice stone. Again, work slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the siding.
  4. For any small remaining bits of graffiti, use a clean razor blade to pick them away.

Always work slowly and carefully when removing spray paint graffiti from stucco walls, so as to be sure not to damage the stucco which is porous and soft. Rinse the area with warm water after removing any graffiti.
